Presented here are a collection of pages from visual journals that have been completed over recent years. There are many words that describe and define who I am with my sketchbook: documenter, scribe, biographer, composer, student, scientist, commentator, and artist. I have volumes of sketchbooks, some with expanding pages, overflowing beyond their bindings. These editions serve as a time line spanning seasons and years. The pages of each sketchbook hold experiences, from the meaningful to mundane.
There are expressions of hardship, troubles, triumphs ad sources of inspiration in the form of images and words. There are landscapes, portraits, scribbles, shapes, still lifes, collages, clippings, poetry, and prose. The media on the pages vary just as much as the subject matter; some caked in layers of acrylic paint, washes of watercolor, or smudged in charcoal and pastel. These moments are depicted through the combination of imagery and notes in what is known as a visual journal.
